For quite some time, I was resistant to sites like Facebook and MySpace because I thought they were silly and a waste of time.
However, I joined MySpace awhile back and found it relatively fun, and just this week, after prompts from my brothers, I made the leap to Facebook.
And now I'm hooked.
It is just so much fun to add friends and see what they're up to on a daily basis, and to share photos and comment back and forth with people.
I've tracked down and been tracked down by people whom I haven't seen or talked to in YEARS!
Some argue that online networking sites like this one account for people's lack of social skills and "real" friendships nowadays. I'm sure that some people get wrapped up in it so much that they neglect their "real" lives, but I think most people just use it to stay in better touch with those people whom they care about but don't get to see nearly enough. And they use it to network for both personal and professional purposes.
I'm also very aware that many employers check sites like MySpace and Facebook before interviewing potential employees. For those people who post inappropriate language and photos, this can cost them a job. However, for the rest of us who keep it clean and fun, I would think that employers would look at the fact that we have an online profile as a GOOD thing.
In this day and age, it's important to keep up with technology and with the people around you, and also to build a presence, both online and in real life.
Thoughts?
If you're on Facebook, pay me a visit! If you're not on Facebook, you should consider it!
Sounds like fun but did you read the article in the Journal today?
Unfortunately you can't always control what other people post on your page.
