Like many people, I love going to the movies.
Sitting in the dark theater, munching popcorn and sipping soda, being lost in a story for a couple of hours – it's a fun escape.
But once in a while the movie-going experience could use a little something more. The seats can be constricting, and often we have a hankering for something more than popcorn and soda.
Enter the Rosebud Cinema Drafthouse, a single-screen movie theater in Wauwatosa. The theater was built in 1930, and in 1999 it was gutted and reopened. Today it features plush love seats and couches, a scattering of tables and a menu that includes pizza, ice cream, assorted fried foods, popcorn, candy and a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Dave and I had our first experience at the Rosebud on Saturday night. We weren't sure what movie we wanted to see – we'd already seen Borat, so I was content!
We saw that the Rosebud was playing the new James Bond movie, Casino Royale, and Dave said he'd like to see that. Not much of a Bond fan myself (I'm not sure I've even seen a James Bond movie before? Maybe the one with Halle Berry in it …) I said I'd go along just so I could have some wine and check out this theater I'd heard so much about.
We bought our tickets online and arrived 30 minutes before show time as the website had instructed. When we were let inside, we were able to get a primo spot in the middle of the theater on a cozy love seat.
We left our coats and went and ordered some drinks and food. I had wine, he had beer, and we got mozzarella sticks and chicken tenders to share. The food was brought out about 10 minutes later and we had it gone before the movie started. It was alright, but I wish we'd gone for the pizza. Next time!
The movie started and we snuggled up together and put our feet on the coffee table in front of us. Much nicer than your average movie theater!
And the movie was AWESOME to boot. Two and a half hours of action, romance, and suspense, filled with sleek cars, beautiful clothes and best of all – Daniel Craig in one heck of a sexy role. Mmmm!
I left fully satisfied, both with the movie and with the theater.
At $9.00 per ticket, the Rosebud isn't any more expensive than your average multi-plex, and it packs a totally different experience into that nine bucks.
Definitely a nice change of pace!
I've heard of this theatre many times before but have never made the trip up to experience it. I will DEFNITLEY have to do it some day soon.

Oh the Rosebud... what a fantastic place. I used to watch the free Packer games while eating free popcorn on their velvet couches back in the day. Good stuff.
