I am a complete and total moron.
We didn't make it to Apple Holler today, and it was all my fault.
I've never been there before, so you'd think I'd want to Mapquest it so I'd know where we were going, right? Wrong.
I remembered passing it tons of times on I-94 so I thought, no problem. So we hopped on 94 West and drove 30 miles. We got off in Delafield to check out our wedding ceremony site, but there was something going on there so we couldn’t stay and look around.
When it was time to get back on I-94 I suddenly realized that I had always passed Apple Holler on my way to Chicago, not on my way to Madison. Which means that we drove 30 miles in the wrong direction – we should have taken I-94 East, not West.
By the time we got back into Milwaukee, we'd been driving well over an hour for absolutely nothing. We were very grumpy and weren't feeling up to driving another 70 miles round-trip to get out to Apple Holler – so we scrapped the whole plan. We're going to make another attempt next weekend, if we can find a spare few hours. I really have my heart set on picking out a pumpkin and carving it, so hopefully we can make it happen.
Audra over at Taste of the Town visited Apple Holler recently, so you can go read about her trip, and this was our pumpkin-picking experience from last year.
Next weekend, I'm getting together with the Knotties on Friday night at Swig, and then Saturday night is my bachelorette party. Whoo hoo! The following weekend is Dave's cousin's wedding and the last weekend before our own wedding. I can't promise that posting will be overly abundant these next few weeks, but I'll certainly do my best!
We headed to Apple Holler on Sunday along with the rest of Wisconsin and Illinois. Honestly, you didn't miss much. There were a ridiculous amount of people there. We waited in line for about 20 minutes just to buy a $4 caramel apple. Plus, the cheapest bag you can buy to pick your own apples is $25. Maybe I'm just cheap, but that seemed over the top. It was still a fun time, but I really wasn't too impressed.

No sense beating yourself up over it: I think we've all been in similar situations. Fate has a funny way of intervening: if you're meant to go, you'll go. If not, you end up on another path. No biggie either way.
And I think we'll all kinda understand if your posting frequency goes down over the next few weeks. That you've been able to spend ANY time updating the blog is amazing to me. Please know that we're all thinking of you both, and wish you nothing but health, happiness and peace. From where I sit, it's so worth it: marriage is wonderful.
