If you’re looking to do something particularly inspiring this weekend, I suggest making plans now to head down to Veteran’s Park on Milwaukee’s lakefront on Sunday morning.
The 26th annual Lakefront Marathon starts at 8 a.m. at Grafton High School, which means that the winners will probably be crossing the finish line in Veteran's Park sometime around 10:30, and the runners will keep on coming for the next few hours.
I’ve run in a marathon, but I’ve never been a spectator at one. Knowing what a huge accomplishment it is and knowing how much the spectators’ cheers and screams kept me going – especially at the end! – really makes me want to be there this Sunday near the finish line. I want to cheer, and I want to see the looks on those people’s faces when they finish their 26.2 miles!
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ran a great feature in this morning’s Pulse Section profiling four people who will be running in the race on Sunday.
As of right now, the weather for Milwaukee says mostly cloudy and 59 degrees for Sunday. Perfect running weather and, as long as there’s no rain, it’s pretty great weather for spectators, too.
Best of luck to all the marathoners!
I vote this your best post yet, Erin! Great job in getting the word out; this race always seems to pass by completely unnoticed by most MKE residents. Get out there and cheer, people!
p.s. I love your e-pics! : )

I have goosbumps right now after reading your marathon post. It's been a while since I've rehashed the days events and I'm so glad that I got a chance to again!
I find myself a little sentimental towards marathons now that I may just have to stop by this one! I watched the Chicago Marathon last year and got all choked up as I relived what I felt.
ahhh memories
