For those of you who read Play in the City regularly, you must know the name Andre by now, as he makes very frequent appearances in the comments section. He first showed up last July when I wrote this post, and he made me laugh right off the bat:
God forbid the tourism office wants people to go outside and have fun. Oh, the horror.
He's been making me laugh ever since with his sarcastic, witty - and sometimes inappropriate - comments, the most recent involving Dave's and my upcoming honeymoon.
For awhile now, we've been wondering when our paths would eventually cross. Since he didn't make it to Jazz in the Park Thursday, I told him that Dave and I would be at Moct last night and that if he was free for a bit, he should stop down.
I was at INFO Magazine's summer edition launch party at Moct on behalf of our client, The Blatz, again, and since it was a Friday night, I asked Dave along with me to keep me company. We set up our table, had a few drinks, and talked to people about the Blatz condos.
I liked Moct a lot - it was a big open-air garage with a long bar and a lounge area downstairs, and then more tables upstairs. It was a beautiful night to be at a breezy bar like Moct. It's a bit out of the way in the Third Ward, and one of the guys I was working with told me that it's more event-focused these days since it just doesn't do nearly the business that the downtown clubs do.
Food was brought in from The Social and The Holiday House (another restaurant to add to our list of ones to try), and Dave and I sampled some bite-sized crab cakes, mushroom tortes and mini hamburgers. We met a nice couple, Ryan and Mindy, whom we talked with for a lot of the night, and while we were talking to them, a guy came up to me and said, "Hi, I'm Andre."
I was so excited to finally meet him! I hadn't really known what to expect as far as what he'd look like, but it wasn't a six foot two guy with red hair in a motorcycle jacket. But I was glad he wasn't a weirdo - you never know, right?
Andre hung out with us, and Ryan and Mindy, for the rest of the night (well, until around 11:00, when we packed up our table and left) and he was just as funny in person as on here. Hopefully we'll hang out with him again!
I told him that I sincerely appreciated that he continues to come back to the blog. There are so many blogs out there vying for attention, that when people become regular readers of mine, I'm extremely flattered!
So ... I wonder which reader I'll meet next?
Hello Michele sent me.
Sounds like it was fun!

I broke a wine glass and we stomped those stupid Scion buttons until they stopped flashing green lights. If that's not fun, I dunno what is.

How do you know Mindie? Small, small world. Oh, and thanks for reading my blog!

Maybe next time you'll meet a more serious stalker than Andre. :) Good thing you brought Dave along…

That's not cool, Alba. He should kick your butt for saying that. I was quite happy to meet him - it's cool to meet your internet friends. I'm actually meeting some tomorrow night, too ...
And Mandy, I don't know Mindie - we just met her that night.
