The top 10 Gems of Milwaukee, as voted on by more than 7,000 people, were announced last week at the city's 160th Birthday Party.
The winners are:
1. Summerfest
2. Milwaukee Art Museum
3. Ethnic Festivals
4. Milwaukee's Lakefront
5. Harley-Davidson
6. Milwaukee County Zoo
7. Frozen Custard
8. Allen-Bradley Clock Tower
9. University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee
10. Friday night fish fries
I voted at the beginning of December, but I don't remember all the things I voted for. I agree with five of the ten items on the list.
Your thoughts?
I'm happy with the final picks for the most part but not so much on the friday night fish fries. Afterall, that's more of a Wisconsin custom than a Milwaukee custom. I'm also suprised that Miller Park and St. Josehat's Cathedral didn't make the list.
In the end though, the party was a lot of fun (I photographed the event for the Milwaukee Press Club) and it was a good thing for the city.. I'm sure we could all come up with our own top ten, but this list will do just fine. :)

How could the Brewers and Miller Park not be in the top 10?

I voted for Summerfest. Horray for summer sun and fantastic music!!
I was really glad to see that the lakefront made the list. I think it is something many Milwaukeans take for granted. Here we are, a gorgeous city in Wisconsin, nestled along the largest fresh body of water in the WORLD!!! How amazing is that!! Sure our beaches may not be the best but the simple fact that we can boast a Lake Michigan view at all I think is something to be celebrated.

Great list - I agree with most of them. I LOVE the art museum there. And of course Summerfest is a favorite. And I will say that the Milwaukee Zoo is far superior to the MN Zoo - but don't say you heard it from me!
Just a note - Lake Superior is the largest body of freshwater in the world, not Lake Michigan. Unless you are basing that on the whole "Lake Michigan and Lake Huron are the same lake" scenario. In which case, the lake should technically be called Lake Michuron. Or Lake Huigan. Or something else weird like that. :)

Oh yeah, my bad. But still, it's pretty damn big and they are pretty much one big lake anyways...although I guess we could say that about the ocean too huh? Whatever, it's still big and it's still magnificent.
