"You’re just lucky that you make me laugh." – Dave
Monday night was dance class number three, and it was the most fun so far. We did so much DANCING! After just three lessons, Dave and I are really getting a feel for how to dance together. We may forget the actual steps as soon as the class ends, but learning how to move together will hopefully stick with us for life!
I made Dave laugh throughout most of this class without even really trying to. Each time the teacher put a new song on – some tango, some Caribbean music, some swing – I just couldn’t help myself and I started doing my own dance to it before we were instructed to start. Dave spent much of the class putting his hand over his face, pretending not to know me, but he was laughing still. I was relieved that he was enjoying himself – unlike last week.
I was once again amazed at how much we fit in this week. We learned to do a double-turn in our swing, and we also learned the samba, the meringue, and the waltz. The rumba, samba, and waltz are all just basic box steps, but what makes them all different is the length of your stride, the type of hold on your partner, and the tempo of the music. The samba is really fast, with small little steps, done to Caribbean music. I loved this – and it was quite a little workout for a few minutes!
The waltz is a very large box step, with complete stops in between each half a box. I got all dreamy-eyed for a few minutes as we waltzed to some really beautiful, slow music – I felt just like Cinderella. Or maybe Belle in Beauty in the Beast – considering who my partner was!
The meringue was just a series of side-steps with some hip movement, and we ladies got to throw some turns in there. This dance made me feel like I was on the set of Dirty Dancing, at the resort with all the old ladies. The teacher said that this is the dance you learn if you go on a cruise. It was alright - kind of boring.
On top of the new dances, we got to practice our swing and our tango, too. We’re still the weakest at the tango, but we’re really rockin on everything else. I wish dance class lasted four hours instead of an hour and a half. It’s so much freakin fun.
Attendance has stayed high so far, too – not one couple has failed to return. The quarters get to be pretty cramped at the front of the auditorium, but we make do. Dave and I have decided to stop doing reenactments in our living room of what we learned, at least not every week - all of the dances look exactly the same in still pictures!
So have I convinced you to try dance class yet? Five more to go!
3/8 done.

Ok, this one made me laugh so hard, out loud! First, I can TOTALLY picture Erin dancing her own little dance as soon as the music came on. And then I come on to make my comment, and Dave's comment almost made me pee my pants. Seriously, I love you guys. You are just such a great example of making the most out of life.
