It was 54 degrees in Milwaukee today! I went outside this afternoon and my body rejoiced at the prospect of Spring, and then I had to face the disappointment when my mind said, “it’s only January, silly. You have at least three more months until you get this again.”
Such is life in Wisconsin.
When I started this blog, I had all the confidence in the world that I’d be able to keep it up through the winter with lots of great, activity-filled posts. Even when I started working full-time I thought, no problem.
I think I was a bit off. I still believe (no, I know) there’s plenty to do outside in Milwaukee in the winter, but I definitely feel pressure to fit something in every single week, knowing that I have people depending on me to post a new adventure! Doing something on a weeknight is usually out of the question because it’s so dark out. So every weekend, I have to try to squeeze something in on Saturday or Sunday, in between other plans or obligations I may have.
And now a lot of the things I had planned on blogging in the next few weekends must be put on hold due to lack of snow! I know I was complaining about all the snow a few weeks ago, but now I'm wishing for it back.
Just wanted to do a little Public Service Announcement to let you all know I’m doing my best!
Anyway, a few updates.
Milwaukee was rated the fifth fittest city in the U.S. by Men’s Fitness magazine this past week.
I love Milwaukee and its lovely people, but I have to say that I think this is a bit off. And if it’s not, then I have very low expectations for the rest of our country. I mean, all you have to do is take a look around to know this just can't be true. No offense!
The magazine took many things into consideration when doing the study – gym membership use, number of health food stores, park space (we got ya there!), TV viewership, number of fast food restaurants, commute distance, etc. - so hey, maybe it’s accurate. If nothing else, Milwaukee is definitely moving in the right direction toward being healthier and more physically fit - and that’s great!
On a side note, our neighbor to the South – Chicago – was rated the fattest city in America.
As for me, life is good. Work is going well, and wedding planning is picking up again which is pretty exciting. I picked out my flowers this week, we meet with the chaplain Saturday, and we taste cake on Monday.
My 24th birthday is this Sunday, the 15th. Saturday night, we’re having dinner at the Bistro with mom and Dale and Dan and Jessica and I'm excited. Then I’m going out dancing with some girlfriends. If we go somewhere cool, perhaps I’ll have to post about it. I’m not sure what we’ll do on Sunday. I do love birthdays, though!
That’s about it for now. I’ll be back this weekend with a tale or two.
I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU AND DANCE THIS WEEKEND. IT SHOULD BE FUN. DON'T WORRY I'LL WALK WITH YOU AGAIN IF YOU NEED;)

You know, I went through the exact same mental exercise yesterday. I saw buds on the trees as I walked my dog and for a minute started believing spring was near. So silly. On the one hand, I love the dry sidewalks and the avoidance of shoveling, but if it's January, I guess it may as well snow.
