My book club had its first meeting last night and it was an absolute blast. I was a bit nervous about it - I mean, how do book clubs work? I had no idea. But I found out last night.
You mix 1 part book discussion with 2 parts laughter and gossip, mix in a couple bottles of wine, some food and a great Milwaukee apartment and - voila! - you've got a book club.
Jennon, who lives in the Fifth Ward, hosted the meeting, and when I first walked into her apartment and looked out her windows, I had to do a double-take. Just outside her door, from her deck on the 13th floor, was the most spectacular view of Milwaukee I'd ever seen. The entire skyline to the left, Lake Michigan to the front, and the Allen Bradley clock to the right. It was breathtaking!
Anyway, there are five of us in the book club - although one couldn't make it last night - and we're going to take turns hosting and choosing which book to read, and we'll be meeting once per month.
I'm already excited for our next meeting.
uhhhh... so what book did you gals read?
that seemed to be secondary to the wine and gossip :)

Haha Charlie.. I was thinkin that too. :)
That's awesome that your friend has such an amazing view of the city Erin. Pretty cool...
But anyway, sounds like your book club is gonna be fun!

I had put the book into my post - with a link and everything - but then I took it out, though I'm not sure why. I didn't think anyone would care that much I guess.
PLUS - you can always look at my About page and see what I'm currently reading. You'll see that the most recent one I finished was The Secret Life of Bees. =) It was a pretty good book - a bit slow-moving, but enjoyable overall.
From now on when I post about book club, I'll be sure to mention the book!

Oh and one more thing. Apparently I missed the memo about wearing turtle neck sweaters. *note to self* =)
Fly down, no proper "uniform". Great first impression Christi. he he.

Three cheers for reading!
Three cheers for wine!
Three cheers for turtleneck sweaters and sweet views and new book clubs and partially unzipped flys! (flies or flys?)
Erin, you'll have to come by during the day to take photos from the balcony- it's the only way to see Milwaukee, ha ha!

What a bunch of nerds. :^)
P.S.
The girl in the pink is
wicked hot. And her
being able to read is
neat too.

Andre,
There are two girls in pink.
And for future reference, it's not very cool to ignore the other wicked hot girls.
You're the nerd, nerd.
Happy Thanksgiving though. =)

Well, since I'm a nerd, I guess it's expected that I would do something that's not cool. So there.
And just because I need three screens for my home computer doens't make me a nerd... .
Right back at you with the Happy Thanksgiving. Beware of Tofurky.

I am in a book club, too! We just finished reading "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini. I highly recommend it. Now we are reading, "Christ the Lord" by Anne Rice. That is not our usual type of book, but we thought it would be good because it is a fictionalized historical account of the life of Christ.
I read "The Secret Life of Bees" a few months ago. I really loved it.
A good book club read is also "Wicked" by Gregory Maguire" and "The Art of Mending" by Elizabeth Berg.

I'm still interested in what the book was!
Popping in from Michele's by the way.
