Dave and I headed to Burlington this morning to see my little brother, Alex, who was home from UW-Madison this weekend. We showed him - and my grandparents and my aunt and my mom (again) - the skydiving video, and they were all very impressed. =)
I figured we'd make the most of the trip so after our visit, Dave and I headed to Fairwyn Farms on Hwy. 50 to go through the NFL Rivalry Corn Maze that I mentioned a few posts ago. It was pretty chilly out, but otherwise a really nice autumn day, and there were a lot of people there, picking out pumpkins, shooting a corn cannon, riding on the race track and the cow train, and trying their luck in the corn maze. We headed straight for the maze.
It cost $10 per person to go through both the Packers maze and the Bears maze, or $8 per person to go through only one. We were told it takes between a half hour and 45 minutes for most people to get through one maze, so we decided to do just one. A young guy explained that there were ten checkpoints throughout the maze, and we had to choose a set of questions that would help us find our way to the end. The options included Health and Fitness, Girl Scouts, American History, and many others. We chose Music/Movies.
We checked in with a girl at the entrance of the maze - she took our name and wrote down the time we started: 2:07. We were told that someone would be sent in looking for us if we weren't out in an hour. We found the first few checkpoints pretty quickly, but they got progressively more difficult to find. The questions we had to answer were easy enough, but as we got further into the maze, the ways to turn became more abundant and we got to more dead ends and went in circles more often. Still, we made our way through pretty easily, smiling at people over the stalks of corn as they made their way around. We even stopped to take a bunch of pictures, and we still made it out by 2:28. Twenty-one minutes! We must be good, huh?
We walked around a bit and took our usual slew of dorky pictures and then headed home. It was a fun way to spend an hour of our afternoon.
Fairwyn Farms is located just outside of Burlington on Hwy 50. It's 10 minutes from Lake Geneva and about 50 minutes south of Milwaukee. A haunted corn maze starts there October 14 - click on an animated preview here (scroll down just a bit). And here you can see other mazes they've done in the past years. Very cool!
I love corn mazes! This year my daughter is old enough to do it, we were going to this weekend and wouldn't you know it, she has a fever, go figure! We'll make it next weekend, great pics :-)
