A story in today's Journal Sentinel reports that the Oriental Theatre on Farwell Ave. has been named one of the country's top ten movie theaters by Entertainment Weekly magazine. The Oriental Theatre, built in 1927, is one of the places that makes Milwaukee unique. Walking through its doors takes one back to a time when going to the movies was an exciting and not-so-common experience.
I've been to numerous movies at the Oriental, but never on a Friday or Saturday night when the huge pipe organ plays to announce the start of the movie. That sounds very cool - definitely on my to-do list now.
