Be ready to dip into near-freezing water at noon tomorrow to prove to yourself that you’re still alive… or to cure that New Year’s Eve hangover!
On New Year’s Day droves of crazy people will descend on Bradford Beach to partake in a long-standing Milwaukee tradition, the Polar Bear Plunge. All at once, brave locals will run like wild into the frigid waters of Lake Michigan and face near-hypothermic conditions.
Meanwhile, I’ll be sipping on a spicy Bloody Mary during a filling New Year’s Day brunch at the Olympia Resort, glad that I’m not participating in the Plunge. The thought alone makes me cringe, but perhaps if I’m coerced I’ll give in to the madness and join the Polar Bear Club next year.
For those of you keeping an open mind and considering making the leap this year, head over to this blog and get a taste of what’s in store for you. Or check out the video footage on YouTube from last year's Polar Bear Plunge – you may want to reconsider!
If any of you are planning to participate, please thaw out, and then share your experience with us!
Until then, happy 2008!
